The modern Yamabushi are veterans from the army, law enforcement, or the emergency services, but they can also be committed civilians, who have retired to devote themselves to a contemplative hermit's life in unpopulated regions. However, their pledge to protect the balance of nature and the innocent compels them to stand up and fight when a just cause requires it, no matter if on one side or another.
