The Great Wide Open
Things like this are my absolute favourite things to write. They are also the reason I love being a part of this kind of business. We started Good Games a few years ago because we thought it would be fun and that hopefully at some stage we’d be able to make a living at it. We’ve put in a bit of work, had some luck and some vision. We’ve taken some risks when advised not to and have seen more come good than ill. We do a lot of behind the scenes type stuff and have more ideas in the pipeline than we have time to deal with. We believe we have a fair knowledge of the industry and are confident of our short and long term success. We are also smart enough to realise that we don’t have all the good ideas. What we are in, though, is a position to be able to act on a lot of good ideas, whether they come from us or from someone else.
We want to do a lot of stuff. In order to do a lot of stuff we wanted to establish a chain of game stores that would enable us to do more. We’re working on that. We now have official franchise stores. We have a distribution company. We’re looking at our first overseas store next year in New Zealand. And possibly in the US. We want to make games - from concept to design to manufacture to distribution to having them on the shelves at all Good Games stores. We want to make our own organised play program. We want to make a Good Games superstore and Good Games vending machines. We want to continually push the acceptance of the gaming/comic/pop culture genre into the mainstream. We want to make Good Games: The Movie. We want to do everything there is to do, including stuff that we don’t know about yet.
Surely someone reading this has a good idea about something that would be interesting or fun or just good business in the gaming industry. Maybe they have designed their own game and need help getting it made. Maybe their father has a factory in Malaysia that could produce low cost gaming products. Maybe they can see some aspect of Good Games that we aren’t doing well with and think they could swing a part time job looking after that. I don’t know, could be anything.
So if you have a proposal to do X, whatever X may be – send me an email – scott@goodgames.com.au If it’s stupid or far out I’ll probably tell you. If it’s really really far out then we just may do it.
